Faqs

Because…

  • …you have access to all addons for Kodi from one central place
  • …you can browse addons on the web instead of using the list of Kodi
  • …you can create an easy bundle to install your personally selected addons all at once or share them with friends
  • …SuperRepo checks dependencies already while being generated
  • …it has proven to be save
  • …it has even more advantages

Yes we are. There are websites claiming to have more addons in their index, but that doesn’t make them larger repositories. How can that be?

  • They count the same addon multiple times: once for every version of Kodi they support.
This is just cheating as it’s just the same addon. Having it 4 times in the database does not make it 4 addons.
  • They count every addon id they can find, whether the actual addon can be downloaded or not
SuperRepo is the only grand repository having it’s own addon distribution network. This forces us to download each and every addon, and if we can not get a copy (we check multiple times per day) the end-users can neither. Conclusion: doesn’t count.
  • They count addons only compatible with extremely old versions of XBMC
Some addons are only compatible with the most ancient versions of XBMC. However, those addons won’t run at all at current versions of Kodi, and they haven’t for years. Including them does raise the counter by large, but it does not make more addons available to the end-user at all.

There are many ways to count and SuperRepo’s method doesn’t lead to the highest number.

  • Only unique addons
  • Only addons which can actually be downloaded
  • No addons which only run at 5 year old versions of XBMC/Kodi

The number doesn’t say anything. SuperRepo offers you a cleaned up addon lists, our own location based mirror network, server-side dependency checking and many more. Being the largest isn’t our main priority. Being the best is.

SuperRepo is ‘only’ a repository. It has no active forum, no team of addon developers and runs as much as possible without human intervention. The biggest advantage is that SuperRepo stays a pure service, which should make it more stable. SuperRepo does not care whether an developer creates his addons at website X or Y, if he puts ads in it or if I personally like the developer. No politics. It just runs. Every day of the week.

Pro:

  • the repository itself is the main priority
  • native Kodi repository (highest level to achieve for a grand repository)
  • server-side recursive dependency checking
  • our own file mirroring network with 99,99% uptime
  • we do not clone, we innovate (first grand repository, first Kodi addons ‘store’, invented addon bundles, multi language addon descriptions online)

Con:

  • We can not help you if an addon gets broken. We just need to wait for the addon developer to fix it (and then push the fix in within hours).

Short answer: No

Slightly longer answer:

  1. SuperRepo collects and distributes addons without modifications.
  2. The collector gives higher priority to packages coming from ‘official’ (third party) XBMC repositories, with the real official XBMC repository on top.
  3. On the software side XBMC will always install from whatever repo provides the highest version number of the specified addon.
  4. As SuperRepo automatically checks addons and their dependencies, the chances of breaking something is ultra-low.

So no, it is not dangerous to use SuperRepo (along with already installed repositories)

This is a combination between a problem getting the information for the repository and a usability bug in XBMC. There are a few workarounds. Try each one starting with nr. 1

  1. You can try to force refresh the repository (select it, context menu, refresh)
  2. Restart XBMC, wait 2 minutes and see if it is filled
  3. Delete the repository and install the repository again
  4. Remove addons15.db from the userdata folder of XBMC. It can be found at C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata\Database (the AppData folder may be hidden)

Please report the problem here too so Team XBMC knows how many times this problem occurs.

Who said there should be a ‘versus’? You can install SuperRepo along either of both tools/repositories giving you access to another 3.200 addons.

“But they say SuperRepo is bad”

More than 5 million SuperRepo users say otherwise. Let’s call it a draw 😉 And if you really want to be sure, Google some for conversations like this one….

Q: Help me! Addon X does not work! What to do?
A: Uninstall SuperRepo, it is very bad and evil. I heard it killed some kittens
Q: I uninstalled SuperRepo but it did not fix anything (ps. my kittens are still alive)

There are various reasons why an addon might not be included.

  1. The Xtended Repository Generator recognizes it as broken and refuses to include it
  2. The addon has missing dependencies
  3. The addon is blacklisted at our Wiki-page: Blacklist/Broken Addons
  4. We have no source to fetch the addon from. Add it in your Personal Addon Center

Too be short: because the addons in category X depends on those addons. Not including them would mean broken subdirectories.

Every few month a story pops up that developer X or Y is angry at SuperRepo. Those stories are mostly based at hearsay and irrational emotions rather than facts. If you really know a developer that does not like SuperRepo, please let us know. Until today, it was always solved by informing the developer a bit more about the ‘how and why’ of SuperRepo or making changes to the way the system works.
